Artist: Pepón Osorio

Pepón Osorio was born in Puerto Rico in 1955. His work is based on the work he did as a social worker. While he does a lot of art outside of the gallery, it is his installation work that has the most relevance to my work. His installations explore the idea of interior and personal spaces as being sacred places, while also discussing the community at large, by addressing ideas and memories he had as a child. He uses these memories and concepts he has of his own childhood and translates them as a universal language to connect with his audience. This is very similar to what I am striving to accomplish in my work through installation, though I don't want to go to the extremes he has gone to in his work. He recreates spaces, and fabricates entire spaces to communicate and connect with his audience.

Artist: Angie Hoffmeister

Angie Hoffmeister is an artist from Düsseldorf who works in oils, ink, marker, and other media. Her work has a large focus on narrative and fantasy themes. While her drawings have a lot of line work and attention to the pen itself, her paintings have a focus on children and imagination and/or fantasy. The bold colors have a mix of softer yellows, which I have been dipping my toes into for a while. Her paintings also have a very personal quality to them, suggesting a memory or a fantasy related to her childhood. Her website doesn't have more than information on her right now, but her has a great deal of work uploaded to deviantart under the screen name iphigen: http://iphigen.deviantart.com/. She also has a blog where she posts WIP: http://iphigen.tumblr.com/

Artist: Vicki Lynn Wilson

Vicki Lynn Wilson is a local Portland artist who specializes in sculpture and installation, but also is involved in performance art. Recently, her art has been about the natural world, but her older installation work holds more relevance to the work I am doing in this class.

The work she was doing prior to 2009 had a lot to do with the female form in a narrative fantasy installation. The work also had a fashion quality to them which also really attracts me to her work. I find the work reminiscent of japanese fashion magazine ads, which draws me in. I find the visuals incredibly interesting and beautiful.
